Drawing and Fears

July 2011: Caverns by apple-pine

I do not like closed spaces. Do not. Really. You live on 12th floor? I will seriously consider taking the stairs. Tunnel? I speed-up like a maniac! But I had a chance to draw inside a beautiful cavern and as soon as I opened up my tiny book - things took a much much better turn! (Drawing helped almost as much as support form some wonderful companions! I am glad I took this walk underground! :)

  1. Good for you to push those boundaries! That's what artists do! I really like those brushstrokes of warm and cool colors - I get a real sense of cool stone and flickering light.

  2. Oh dear, I have the same issue... and the older I get the worse it is... I'm afraid I'd have sat this one out, and let others go inside and take pictures for me... I'm hyperventilating just thinking about it... yuk.

  3. Love your renderings! I was inside some caverns just a couple of weeks ago & I haven't been able to figure out how to sketch the beautiful formations - even from the photos. Your drawings have helped me figure it out. Thank you!

  4. thank you for such supporting comments!
Capt Elaine - I would try to talk you into going there - it was really beautiful! You just need to start drawing on the surface and keep moving - walls opened up quite a bit for me when I reached for my sketchbook!
