antidote for anger

Our local tulip thieves are at it again with the blooming of our late tulips. This time they didn't even carry them to the next block (as was done with our early tulips) --- after picking them, they just threw them down in our yard.

I was so angry . . . . I came right in and sketched them before they wilted anymore, and in the process of observing their beauty up-close lost my anger. Sketching is a wonderful antidote!

  1. I am so sorry to hear someone would do such a thing. That is teriable. I think red tulps are the prettiest! So glad you were able to get athem down in a picture that is just beautiful. Love your work and all your talent!

  3. I find that with painting too, it's very calming. Love this page with the tulips, where they can go on giving pleasure, monsters or no monsters!

  4. To hold on to anger only hurts ourselves -- the person we are mad at usually doesn't know or care. I'm thankful for being able to get past it by sketching. And I loved seeing how the red "popped" on this toned paper!

  5. Vicky are you sure it's humans doing this? The reason I ask is because my aunt is plagued with the same problem and it's squirrels that are doing the damage. They break off the blooms carry them a short distance and drop them.

Regardless of the culprit, love the page you sketched!

  6. The previous tulip was found a block away, tucked neatly in the top of a newly planted shrub that would not hold a squirrel's weight on top and is higher than a dog would have left it, so yeah, I'm sure it's a child or children.

  7. Sounds like something little children would do...pretty to pick but quickly forgotten for something else. ???

  8. A gentle answer turns away wrath,
But a harsh word stirs up anger.

  9. Yep, sounds exactly like a young child to me. That's why I'm not really all THAT angry. Children make mistakes and we forgive them.

And if the tulips hadn't been vandalized, I might not have sketched them so quickly . . . then there'd be nothing in my sketchbooks to remember their beauty!

  10. We used to have this problem and the thief turned out to be a squirrel!
