Quick Sketching in Color

This is a little video I did for my Quick Sketching in Color mini-class...it's been private for just my students until now, but I decided to share it with you!

It's my quick and easy accordion journal I carry in my vehicle for sketching wherever I am.  I'm not much on shopping, so I do a LOT of "parking lot sketches" while Joseph does our business.

Sometimes I can add color on the spot, sometimes I exercise my color memory and do it later...that's what I did for this demo!  Either way works, it's your journal!

Check out the class info, here: http://cathyjohnson.info/sketchingincolor.html

(By the way there are TWELVE videos in that class!  Not bad for 4 lessons...)

More on a different kind of quick and easy journal here on YouTube, or see my CD, here.  It includes both these types, plus ring-bound, book cloth, making covers and more!

  2. Oh yes he is a DOLL, Carol. So glad he doesn't mind shopping...he'll read labels, comparison shop, look around...I just want to get in and get out, usually. (Hey, maybe one reason he's so accommodating of my sketching in the car while he shops is that I tend to impulse-buy if I have to wait on him to look at labels too long. Yesterday it was a gorgeous planter with a wonderful glaze...don't know what I'm going to DO with it, but it made my heart sing.)

  4. Great video Cathy. Really looking forward to the second semester of Sketchbook Skool where you will be teaching a class. A good friend of mine turned me on to your site and art as you are her FAVORITE! Thanks for the video on making the folded journals as well....so clever! Getting a full sheet of paper to make one today! Cheers!

  5. "Artist's Journal Workshop" has been included in Tuesday's Sites To See for this week. Be assured that I hope this helps to point many new visitors in your direction.

    1. You are most welcome! Hey, I just noticed that you have an Etsy shop on your Fine Art site, which has not been posted to in a while, and I am wondering if you have a site that you keep fairly current, where you have a link to your Etsy shop? The reason why I ask is because I am planning on including your Etsy shop in my Thinking of Christmas Gifts in July 2014 series, and I like having the text link going to a blog, but if you do not have such a site, I will just link to your Etsy home page, with the image being linked to the specific item.

By the way, my wife and I have lived in and around Springfield (MO) for the last 16 years or so. I'm sure glad they caught that sniper on the far southeast side of the KC area.

    2. Oh my goodness, SNIPER?? I apparently am out of the loop! No, actually, linking to the Etsy shop would probably be best. At present I am spread so thin between all my Facebook groups, Flickr, Urban Sketchers, Danny Gregory's "Sketchbook Skool" class I will be teaching, an upcoming North Light book, and Real Life, I have difficulty keeping up. I DO refresh the Etsy shop often, though, so thank you!
