Dealing with what may not be failure
I just thought I'd post this for those of us who struggle with producing something that we may not be happy with. And that it's perfectly fine to do it again and again. I just posted my first drawing in quite a while. I had it planned in my mind but when I drew it I was disappointed. One thing I do that I don't like is that when I start a drawing I will sometimes hurry through it to finish it rather than start again and see what happens. I am trying to stop doing that.
.
So here are the two drawings. No decision needs to be made about which one is better...just that if you mess up, try it again. Maybe you'll be happier with the next one.

I like them both alot Ellen and want your secret for the ability to redraw a composition. Even if I don't like #1, my heart just isn't in #2.
ReplyDeleteVery good advice, Ellen! Sometimes I keep plodding away on a page, and sometimes I just figure I've worked on it enough, having killed it dead, so time to move on! I like BOTH of yours by the way...
ReplyDeleteI love both of them, each for it's unique look and feel! Is this colored pencil?
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean Shirley. Sometimes it seems too much...then hopefully I realize I should have quit and started over. I can name several drawings where I should have started over....oh well! Thanks for liking them both!
ReplyDelete.
Cathy, I need to get to that second place more often. It can take more work to fix the first one than to start over. And thank you for liking both.

Vicky, thanks! Yes, the first one is Prismacolor on a black acrylic (two coats) ground that I had first given a coat of clear gesso. The second is also Prismacolor but there is no gesso...just black acrylic.
I love them both... it is like one is summer, and the browner one is summer's end... :) Makes a nice series!
