I was using my new Ahab Noodler's pen and watercolors...perfect for the day...I mostly used "real" brushes rather than waterbrushes, though... |
Here's what I was looking at...and the tourists were stopping by to watch me paint! |
Joseph got into sketching this time, too...we LOVED our day out there... |
Wonderful. you captured the area beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rita! It was just heavenly...snow on the ground in places, but warm in the sun.
ReplyDeleteYou would love sketching in Zion National Park if you have enjoyed Red Rock Canyon!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm SURE I would! It's gorgeous...I love Valley of Fire, too, but my husband had seen it already, and Red Rock was closer to my sister's house...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful drawing, wonderful photos, I think I got some sun of yours and vitamin D.
ReplyDeleteGosh! How serene the landscape is in the bright sun. And you snagged a new Ahab!! Nice! ;) Lovely sketch and shot of your sweetie. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day . . . wonderfully captured!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely glorious!!
ReplyDeleteYou and your sister have been in my thoughts a lot. Hope things are well with all.
Wonderful, and brings back memories for me of being in Red Canyon in Utah. I love your sketches. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, all...it's a magical place. I want to go back! Things with my sis are as well as can be expected, and better than I'd feared--thank you for asking, Miss Vicky!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sketches - I can almost feel the warmth of that sunshine.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sketch! What ink are you using in your Ahab?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sketch. I got my own Ahab and so far I'm sufficiently impressed with how much better it is than the original Noodler's flex. Will probably order another one.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I LOVE it when you show us your sketch and what you were looking at when you did it. Great insights come to newbies like myself when comparing the two images.
Cheers --- Larry
Thanks all! I like both of them for different things, Larry...the Ahab really makes a FINE line when I want it, which I love, but with the cap pegged it's a tiny bit heavy for me. Love the little flex pens for their lightness, though they DO run out of ink quickly.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that when you and Joseph visit family, even during serious illnesses, you always make time for a day away, sketching, enjoying, reviving yourselves. This is such a healthy example for the rest of us. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWe do indeed, Rachel...even my brother-in-law told us it was great! He's got his hands full doing almost everything for my sis now, but he he does a great job. We both love them, but time alone in nature is just essential.
ReplyDeleteKate - did you miss my question about what kind of ink you used in your Ahab? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI did, Cheryl, sorry! I'm using Lexington Gray Noodler's so far. Working great...
ReplyDeleteSo you're not having any problems with the ink bleeding? How long does it take to dry? I seem to remember you saying earlier that your noodler's ink never dried, but maybe that was black. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYes, that was the black. The Lexington Gray works fine. I tried their new brown formulation too, and it worked well but clogged my pen. I'm a tad tired of the gray, but it WORKS.
ReplyDeleteOK, thanks so much - I'll try it.
ReplyDeleteNice, soooo nice! I always get inspiration from your work. Have you collected any of that gorgeous red rock for making pigment? Made some from samples we collected in Sedona. Made a nice umber.
ReplyDeleteHi Lee...no, I haven't, not out there! I've done it before from other rocks though. We've got a lot of limonite and hematite around here...and some of that iron-rich stuff in the Ozarks.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sketches. I love your color sense.
ReplyDeleteI just returned from RR also. I was there the 4-8 and spend a day hiking and sketching. It surely was a perfect way to get Vit. D. This is just wonderful. Would you mind telling me what colors you used to create the red rock. I am struggling with it. Happy Holiday Season to you.
ReplyDeleteThank you AJ...that was pretty much Mother Nature's color sense!
ReplyDeleteClare, sounds WONDERFUL. Where are your sketches, wanna see! I think this was a combination of Quinacridone Burnt Scarlet and Burnt Sienna, IIRC.
And have a wonderful Christmas season to you too!
